Alternative Methods Designed To Fix A Hoarse Voice
We’ve all had days when our
voices sounded raspy, husky, or weak. You probably came across days where you’ve
lost your voice for short periods of time. There are also people who suffer
from such voice issues on a constant basis - which can definitely be an
annoying problem to deal with.
For those currently facing
the above-mentioned issues and are looking for an effective way to fix a hoarse voice once and for all, this article may lead you to a viable solution.
______
Although there are many
methods and options catered to fixing a hoarse voice, most people initially
choose self-care methods - like the following:
Breathe Moist Air - Use a humidifier to keep the air throughout your
home or office moist. If obtaining a humidifier is not possible, you can also
use an old-school method of inhaling steam from a bowl of hot water or a moist
towel. you can add medicinal fragrances like mint, chamomile, ginger and others
to the hot water to ease throat tension and enhance the healing process.
Give the voice some rest - Avoid talking or singing too loudly
for too long. If you need to speak before large groups, try to use a
microphone. For those with speaking or singing difficulties, it is recommended
that you contact a voice specialist for advice on voice/speech improvement.
Drink Plenty of Fluids - In order to prevent dehydration
(which involves throat/vocal cord dryness, i.e, hoarseness), minimum or
permanent elimination of alcohol and caffeine consumption (tea excluded) IS A
MUST! Drink plenty of healthy liquids - like water, tea, herbal drinks, etc -
and it can naturally improve the health of your vocal anatomy.
Stop Smoking - smoking will negatively affect the quality of your voice. The inhalation of toxic substances (like tobacco and unnatural chemicals associated with it) will not only dry up your throat and irritate the vocal cords, it will also lead to extremely-negative side effects - one of which is throat cancer. Keep yourself away from smoking and (IMPORTANT) avoid exposure to cigarette smoke. It is one of the most common causes of laryngeal cancer - which often results in the complete REMOVAL of the sufferer’s vocal anatomy.
Avoid Whispering - For those who constantly whisper due to various
circumstances, it may surprise you but doing so puts more strain on your
voice/vocal cords than normal speech does. This happens because when the vocal
cords vibrate within the voice box (when the two cords touch), a layer of mucus
meets between the middle, allowing the vocal cords to maintain a constant level
of moistness. You will also notice that when you swallow or clear your throat,
the quality of your voice temporarily increases. This is also one of the ways
the human body naturally applies a coat saliva/mucus layer to keep the vocal
cords moist.
With the above-said, it is
essential to give the voice some rest in order to maintain moisture within the
vocal cords. Also, make sure that you speak only as much as you need to.
Avoid Decongestant medications - Avoiding medical decongestants can
play a major role when it comes to fixing a hoarse voice. Of course, there are various people who
suffer from congestion problems - some more than others. It is understandable
to lean to medical solutions if the problem is severe enough, but there are
also a variety of natural/alternative solutions that can solve congestion
issues and also allow the sufferer’s voice to maintain a healthy-sounding
quality. These substances can be found in a multitude of natural health stores
across the world.
_________
